J. E. Michel Lalonde

With 45 years of experience in banking, leasing, insolvency, business & management consulting and M & A.

Michel is passionate about helping business owners to succeed and wants to ensure that they are well equipped to transition to the next phase of their business life – growing, acquiring or divesting.

Michel began his career with a major chartered bank in Toronto, then moving to Hamilton, Windsor and finally to Ottawa. He became a branch manager at age 26 and focused on commercial lending. He was also a bank auditor and traveled across the country.

Michel also spent time with a federal crown corporation in the risk assessment of financial institutions. In addition, he acted for a provincial crown corporation in assessing commercial financing risk in financial institutions (i.e. caisse populaires and credit unions).

Michel has carried out numerous assignments in insolvency for a Trustee in Bankruptcy and many business consulting, financial monitoring, financing, raising capital, restructuring, strategic planning and M & A advisory assignments for SME’s in Ontario and Québec. In 2003, Michel carried out a special consulting assignment / feasibility study (post office banking services) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa.

Michel obtained an F.I.C.B. – Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers in 1977, a 
General Management Diploma from the Institute of Canadian Bankers in 1988 and attained the 4th level of the CGA (Certified General Accountant) program and took many business courses including several MBA courses. Michel is a licensed Mortgage Broker, which allows him to deal in mortgages throughout Ontario and elsewhere.

Michel has been an active participant in the business communities of the Ottawa and Outaouais region for over 30 years. He was a member and/or board member of the Ottawa-Carleton Board of Trade, Gloucester Chamber of Commerce, Chambre de commerce de la Vallée de la Petite-Nation, Société d’aide au développement de la collectivité de Papineau Inc. (SADC). He also co-owned a contemporary art gallery.

His other interests include golfing, fishing, pheasant hunting, visual arts, modern dance and martial arts (Tae Kwon Do).
